Next Meeting12:00 Noon
Wednesday January 21, 2009
Oak Lawn Public Library
4100 Cedar Springs, Dallas 75219 Linda White will be chairing the group and we hope to have someone from the pawn shop detective division as a speaker. Sgt. Jaquez is to try to set something up and notify Linda.
Don't forget about the Police Academy classes starting in Jan. Contact DPD for application forms. Phone numbers are below. There continues to be an increased number of armed robberies in our area which indicates more aggressive behavior by the criminals. There is a new scam occurring in parking lots. Paper is being placed on the rear windows of cars in hopes you will get in your car, start the engine, realize there is something blocking your view and jump out. That's when someone jumps into your car and drives off with the car and all of your personal belongings so they now know where you live, etc. BEWARE...Do not stop to remove the paper until you have left the area or get home. If you have electronic equipment in your car and hide it, be sure to remove the cords and "docking station" also or thieves will break into your car to look for what you hid. About Our GroupThe Oak Lawn Cedar Springs Crime Watch is a group of concerned residents and business owners who meet with officers from Central and Northwest Dallas Police divisions to discuss neighborhood issues. The officers provide up-to-date crime statistics and inform us of developing trends and individual incidents occurring in our area. We meet at noon on the third Wednesday of each month at the Oak Lawn branch of the Dallas Library. Our meetings are open to everyone and are regularly attended by members of other city departments in addition to the police. Our meeting lasts for one hour, but attendees are encouraged to remain to discuss individual issues with city staff afterwards. We usually have lunch provided by a sponsor and a guest speaker to address issues identified by group members. Our group is Co-sponsored by the Oak Lawn Library.
